Ipoh Food Hunting (29/5/2017-31/5/2017)

This is a short trip to Ipoh to hunt for good local food with my girlfriend and my mom. Fortunately, we had a local tour guide which is my aunt to bring us around. We managed to try all kinds of delicious food without much difficulty of finding the location.  I would say it was a very fruitful day for our stomach. Some of the food I am trying it for the first time even though I have been to Ipoh many times. All of the food we tried had met my expectations and some are above my girlfriend's expectations which makes her really happy!

Pasir Pinji, Ipoh

1.  Hong Kee Mah Chee

I had been buying from them since I was young. So far their Peanut Paste and Mah Chee are top in my list. Their Mah Chee is very springy and well balance in terms of softness. While, their Peanut Paste is in very good quality and very well ground, definitely MUST TRY if you do drop by Ipoh.

However, they are now selling it at smaller portion than before (years back) but what to say right, even they had to make a living as well. Besides that, good quality stuffs always come in small sizes .

This seller used to sell Mah Chee as family business just outside their wooden house. After that, they started to sell Peanut Paste as well and their business been progressing very well. It had been pass down from generations to the next and now you be surprised that their house had been renovated and is one of the biggest house in that street! So it is kinda easy to spot their light green stall.

Address:550, Jalan Queen, Pasir Pinji, 31650 Ipoh, Perak.

Business Hours: Monday - Sunday, 1pm-6pm (Closed on Thursday)

2. Big Tree Yong Tau Fu

This famous hawker stall is famous for their fried food. They had wide variety of choices and it is self-service here. You just had to take a basket and select your fried stuff, then pass it to them to count.

I would suggest to just eat the fried food without mixing them into soup or noodles to really get their maximum flavor!

Address: 652, Jalan King, Taman Hoover, 31650 Ipoh, Perak.

Business Hours: Monday - Sunday, 8.30am-5.30pm (Closed on Thursday)

3. Ming Yue Confectionery

One of the best Kaya Kok / Kaya Puff in town! Don't be fool by their size! It tastes so good and fresh. You will need more than one piece to be able to satisfy your craving. Good choice if want to buy some back for your friends and family. It still taste as fresh even though it had pass 1 or 2 days after purchasing it.

Address: 50, Jalan Peh Kee Koh, Taman Kampar 30250 Ipoh, Perak.

Business Hours: Monday - Sunday, 9.30am-7pm

4. Dai Gao Min

This seller located opposite of the Pasir Pinji famous morning market. We take away and had it at home. It is really crispy and had the addiction buttery taste. My girlfriend loves it!

Location: Opposite Pasir Pinji Morning Market

Business Hours: From 12pm onwards

Ipoh Town

1. Funny Mountain

This is the first shop we went. It has express service where we can drive through and drink/order without wasting time to find parking. It taste really fresh and their sugar syrup is the best by far I had tasted.

Address: 49, Jalan Theatre, Taman Jubilee, 30300 Ipoh, Perak.

Business Hours: Monday - Sunday, 10.30am-7pm

2. Ding Feng Teow Chew Tau Fu Fa (Second Concubine Lane)

This is the next Tau Fu Fa we tried comes with two different combinations of flavors. The one we order is with Gula Melaka and the other one with sea bird nest

Address: 8, Lorong Panglima, 30000 Ipoh, Perak.

Business Hours: Monday - Sunday, 8am-5pm

3. Woong Kee Bean Curd

Lastly, this Tau Fu Fa we tasted comes with several combinations of flavors. One is with peanut flakes which for me is not bad and the other one is with grass jelly, which personally I felt it is a really great combination!

Address: 32-38A (Bawah), Jalan Ali Pitchay, 30250 Ipoh, Perak.

Business Hours: Monday - Sunday, 1pm-6pm

All three shops had their own unique selling point and if possible go try all three of them!

4. Restoran Thean Chun

My girlfriend had been searching for good custard from KL to Ipoh and we glad that we found it! The Gula Melaka syrup really brings out the fresh taste of the Custard!

The Satay I couldn't comment much cause I don't eat inner organs, but the pork satay was nice though.

Address: 73, Jalan Bandar Timah, 31650 Ipoh, Perak. (Opposite Second Concubine Lane)

Business Hours: Monday - Saturday, 9am-4pm, Sunday, 9am-12am (Closed on Thursday)

5. Restoran Sun Tuck Kee

We actually plan to go Restaurant Tuck Kee, however, it was full and it takes around 1 hour to get your order ready.
So we decided to try the restaurant beside it and we order 2 types of noodle dishes. One is Kway Teow noodles and the other Fish Noodles which the noodles itself is made of fish paste. I like it very much as the noodle is springy and match really well with its gravy. The Kway Teow noodles was good as well!

Address: 65, Jalan Yau Tet Shin, Taman Jubilee, 30300 Ipoh, Perak

Business Hours: Monday - Sunday, 11.30am-2.30am

6. Egg Tart @ Concubine Lane & Nam Heong White Coffee

Both egg tarts have slightly different taste, the one in Concubine lane is slightly salty , buttery and crust while the other one has really smooth milky fillings. Must try the Portuguese Tart at the stall in Concubine Lane!

Nam Heong White Coffee

Address: 2, Jalan Bandar Timah, 30000 Ipoh, Perak,

Business Hours: Monday - Sunday, 6.30am-10pm

7. Golden Char Kway Teow @ Restoran Sin Lean Lee

We also brought back the Golden Noodles and I really love this version. I had tried this several time and consistently giving me similar quality every time. It taste even better if we had it at the restaurant itself with a Kopi Kaw!

Address: 21, Jalan Panglima, 30000. Ipoh

Business Hours: Monday - Sunday, 8am-5pm (Closed on Thursday)

8. Kedai Kopi Ah Chow

This is the first time I had tried the combination of white coffee + liquor. The combination is matching perfectly. It goes really well together and it is highly addictive! Definitely recommend to anyone of you if you like to drink white coffee and alcoholic drinks.

Address: 31, Jalan Bandar Timah, 30000 Ipoh, Perak.

9. Kafe Yoon Wah

This is definitely the place to bring your friend to have chill and have a couple of refreshing 'snow' beer. The moment of the beer pours into your freezing pint, the beer will be partially frozen for a period of time. This way you get to enjoy the full flavor of your beer without extra ice melting affecting the flavor. It was invented by the owner of the cafe himself around 30 years ago. Besides that, they also actually serve food as well and they had several shops in that particular streets itself!

Address: 5, Jalan Bijeh Timah, 30000 Ipoh, Perak.
